Research On The Artworks of Moffat and Hall

Planet of the Apes 1973, 1998

By: Tracey Moffat
Dimension : 44.0 x 35.5 cm

It is an off set printed image on Natural Snow Gum paper using light fast ink. In other words, it is a colored photo. This nice photo is taken by her when she was just 13 years old. What so funny about this image is she forced her young cousin to wear pantyhose, a close fitting coverings of the body from the waist to the feet before taking the photo. Judging it as an artist's early artwork, it is an excellent piece of work as she smartly utilized her cousin as her model. The use of pantyhose in this photo suggests that the early stage of her artistic work is full of constraints and obstacles. While the apes figure which is used to cover her cousin face gives us an idea that she wanted to escape from the reality of life.

Cocos Nucisera 1999

By : Fiona Hall

The motif behind this artwork is coconut tree, which can be easily found in tropical world, virtually every part of the coconut palm has some human uses. The material that selected to compose this shinny artwork is sardine tin. This material is made of common metal that can be reused and recycled. The use of sardine tin to make up the whole coconut palm sends us a message that used metals such as aluminium can be very useful, just like every part of the coconut tree. Besides that, this stunning artwork has made an indirect reference to the Garden of Eden and to the great variety of plant species, and telling us that paradise will disappear if environmental degradation is left unnoticed.
